Welcome to the Annapolis Triathlon hosted by the Annapolis Triathlon Club, 3 Sport Racing and the Maryland Seafood Festival. This event is produced in cooperation with Anne Arundel County, the City of Annapolis and the State of Maryland and has been ranked by Inside Triathlon Magazine as the 13th “Best New Race”.

The Annapolis Triathlon Club, 3 Sport Racing and the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce welcome all level of athletes and competitors to our hometown. THANKS FROM ALL OF US AT THE ANNAPOLIS TRIATHLON CLUB: We wish to thank all who will enter and compete this year from across the USA and beyond. The planning and preparation phases for our 2nd annual event are well under way. We’re thrilled to be hosting such a spectacular event in our historic town, in conjunction with the Maryland Seafood Festival. The course will offer challenges for all skill levels. It’s a fast but fair race course sure to test your endurance physically and mentally. Train smart, and race hard.

THE RACE DATE/TIME/FIELD: September 7, 2008 at 06:30am, Annapolis, Maryland. Wetsuits are allowed and encouraged. The typical water temperatures this time of year are in the 70’s F, air temperatures average 59' to 78' F. Race management reserves the right to accept or reject any entry.
The minimum age to compete is 15. The 2008 Race limit is 2,000 participants.

ABOUT THE EVENT: There is NO rain date, We go rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, management reserves the right to alter/modify the race/course for safety concerns. In the case of a "Natural Disaster"/Local Incident/Terrorist Act, there will be No Refunds of race entry fees. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid. There is no complementary race entry to a future race. All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all. Any decision we make to go forth with the race is based on the overall event safety. Annapolis will always utilize a "wave" start format. Wave placement will be announced and made available online in the weeks leading up to the event.

2008 RACE FEE STRUCTURE:
* USAT Members: $125.00 (US)
* Non-USAT Members: $135.00 (including $10 one-day USAT insurance fee)
* Active Military USAT Members: $115.00
* Active Military Non-USAT Members: $125.00
* Relay Teams: $210.00/$220.00/$230.00/$240.00
* Note: Relay Teams comprised of any Non-USAT members, have an added single one-day license fee of: $10.00 to the fee total (reflected above) per Non-USAT Member. For example, a relay team composed of two USAT members and one Non-USAT member would pay $220.00.
* Tri-Annapolis Charity Relay Challenge (for Corporation and or teams) will have a fee of $525.00 – this event requires a 3-member team.

This event will be a charity event with donations being made in the challenge teams name for first 3 places. There will be a special area in the transition for entrants as well as special awards for all participants.

After 7/01/08: All entry fees will increase $25.00.

REFUND POLICY: A partial cash (via check) refund less $40, will be made, Only if requested in writing/email on or before July 1, 2008. Please allow up to 4 weeks for processing. After this date, absolutely NO refunds will be made for any reason. There are NO race transfers or substitutions allowed. Selling of your race entry slot is strictly prohibited by us and USATriathlon rules. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as, the entrant who purchased your slot will be unable to race in another TriAnnapolis event for a minimum of 2 years. Selling of race entries jeopardizes our race insurance coverage, and can change the placement status of other athletes that have trained hard to complete the race. Entry fees are not transferable to another person or to another race. There are no refunds at all given to community/charity slots since this money is allocated directly toward charity. If you are registered as relay, substitutions to your relay team may be made up to one month prior to the race. You may not switch from a relay team to the individual category.

RACE ENTRY CONFIRMATION/UPDATES: Any cancelled check will serve as confirmation of race entry and acceptance. Further event info will available on the web site for you print or will be emailed to you. Please go to your race entry online and check it for accuracy. All entries will be confirmed on our web site at www.triAnnapolis.org. We will not use USPS.

THE RACE COURSES: The 1500 m swim takes place in the Chesapeake Bay, in brackish water (a mix of salt and fresh water). Water temperatures in September are typically in the mid 70’s F, depending of course on summer precipitation. USAT wetsuit rules will be in effect (no wetsuits allowed if water temps exceed 78' F). The swim route is anticipated to be a beach start, point-to-point, style course marked by orange and yellow Day-Glo buoys with participants exiting for the transition. The scenic 40k bike route traverses our rolling countryside and farmlands of Anne Arundel County with several moderate climbs along well maintained paved roads including the historic, brick streets of Annapolis. Riders will be treated to a challenging as well as scenic course with many roads matching the historic routes of George Washington. There is professional motorcycle support. Please note the bike course is not closed to traffic. Numerous police and support staff monitor the route. The yellow centerline rule is always in effect. The 10k run course map is still being finalized. The course will be primarily out and back, flat and fast. There will be Aid Stations providing support both in hydration and spirit approximately each mile of the run.

DIRECTIONS: The Annapolis Triathlon is held in Annapolis, MD, the State Capitol of Maryland, which is located on the western shores of the Chesapeake Bay between Baltimore,MD and Washington, D.C. and is about 30 mi. from the BWI Airport.

RACE PACKET PICK UP: Packet Pickup is on Friday September 5th 3pm-7pm, and Saturday September 6th 10am-6pm;at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, N* Room, Blue Side Parking Lot. There are NO Saturday or race day entries and NO Sunday Packet Pick-up. All pre-registered entrants are expected to attend packet pick up in person. This is due insurance liability concerns. All participants must show a photo ID, and all USAT annual members additionally must show their membership card. No exceptions. A unique wristband will be affixed at this time which must remain on thru to the end of the race. Sorry, No wrist band on Sunday morning, No race.

ATHLETE AMENITIES:
Health & Fitness Expo, a “tech” style t-shirt , imprinted swim cap, custom water bottle, Goodies, exciting prizes available for all finishers and awards to overall champions, raffle prizes, special commemorative finishers medallion, great post race party and great music as part of the Maryland Seafood Festival, complimentary post race massage.

PRE-EVENT PASTA GALA:
Numerous area restaurants will be supporting an athlete’s dinner. The restaurant list is being developed in conjunction with the Annapolis Business Association.

PRE-EVENT COURSE TALK: At the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, Saturday afternoon, September 6, tentatively scheduled for 5:00 pm.

MANDATORY PRE-EVENT BIKE SAFETY CHECKS: Friday, August 29, to Saturday September 6 at Bike Doctor Locations throughout Maryland, Visit their website at www.bikedoctor.com to locate the store most convenient to your location. A special sticker will be affixed to the stem. You must bring your ANSI-Snell certified race helmet and your race day bike. Bike racking begins at Noon, September 6 at the Transition Area, after you complete the registration process at the hotel. Best to have your bike inspection done early and avoid the lines on Saturday.

MANDATORY PRE-EVENT BIKE RACKING: All bikes must be racked at the Transition Area on Saturday, September 6th (Noon to 7 pm). Once racked, your bike cannot be removed. Full security is provided overnight. NO exceptions!

Special Notice to athletes in regard to USAT CARDS FOR REGISTRATION

The duplicate membership option on the USAT one-day forms for USAT sanctioned events has been deleted. Athletes MUST bring proof of annual membership or purchase a one-day permit. Athletes who do not bring/show proof of membership must purchase a one-day OR will not be allowed to race. Athletes who forget their membership cards will have four options. Note all 2008 CTA events have the one day option as a part of the race entry fee structure should you select that form of payment. If you do forget your card, you have the following choices this year:

  • Go” back” and get your card.
  • Print off a temporary membership card from the USAT web site, ( www.usatriathlon.org)
  • Purchase a $10.00 one-day license
  • Renew your annual membership online and bring proof of renewal
Please remember to pack your USAT membership card. Don’t leave home without it!
