Dates for Officials clinics this season: May 21--recertification clinic the day before Columbia Tri. 9am-12. Columbia, MD June 11--clinic the day before Eagleman Half Ironman. 9am-12. Cambridge, MD July 9--clinic the day before Triangle Tri. 9am-12. Raleigh, NC October 1--recertification clinic the day of Pinehurst Tri. 2-6pm (tentative). Pinehurst, NC Update on the M-A Officials Program March 2005: I attended the Regional Coordinators Meeting in Colorado Spring in January. The transfer of documents from the previous RC was not done as early in the year as it could have been so I've had to spend a LOT of time recreating the files and putting together the roster of officials. Updated documentation has now been distributed and discussed with all officials. New reporting procedures have been discussed with Head Refs for 2005. The race schedule and assignments have been completed for this season, although I seem to get a new event every week so I am continually making race assignments. Every MA official should now have a complete basic uniform--red shirt and hat--many did not so I mailed out the missing piece(s). Black and white shirts have been mailed to every new Head Ref. Triplicate penalty forms have been mailed to every Head Ref. To date: 28 active officials 57 events, many with 2+ event options I need to bring in a lot of new officials to handle this volume of races, hence the two clinics. I also need to be confident that procedures are followed consistently across the region, hence the two recertification clinics. Wish list: --Issue a red cool-max shirt to every official @ $30 each --Offer $100 rebate to all officials who own or buy a motorcycle helmet --Issue weather-proof red jacket to every official @ $40 each (some officials won't want or already have) --Increase outreach efforts by region offering to pay mileage or stipend to officials requesting such for travel to give club rules talks.
