EAGLEMAN 70.3 TRIATHLON

Welcome to The 2011 SUBARU EagleMAN Ironman 70.3.

This is a true test of both your physical and mental toughness. We wish you the best in fitness and success! Please do not consider entry unless you have properly prepared and trained for this challenging event. The conditions are both demanding and challenging; heat, winds, choppy river, and no shade… Sounds a Lot Like “Kona” so please train accordingly.


American Bald Eagle Trivia:
The bald eagle was adopted as America's National Symbol in 1782
Eaglets weighing 9-12 lbs. leave the nest at about 10-13 weeks of age.
An adult bald eagle is 2½ ft. in length; has a wingspan of 6½ -7 ft.
Bald eagles are protected by state and federal laws.
Bald eagles mate for life.


THE SUBARU EAGLEMAN IRONMAN 70.3 EVENT RACE DATE/TIME/PLACE:

Date: Sunday, June 12, 2011

Official Start Time: 06:45 (depending upon tidal flow)

Place: Great Marsh Park; Somerset Ave.; Cambridge, MD; 21613; USA

Minimum age to compete is 16. (Requires RD approval and training log).

Field limit: 2600

ABOUT THE EVENT:

There is NO rain date, We Go Rain or Shine.

 In case of inclement weather, management reserves the right to alter/modify the race/course for safety concerns.

 In the case of a Natural Disaster/Local Incident/Terrorist Act, there will be no refunds of race entry fees. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid. There is no complementary race entry to a future race. All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration.

We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all. Any decision we make to go forth with the race is based on the overall event safety.

Management further reserves the right to reject or accept any race entry. EagleMan Ironman 70.3 will utilize a "wave" start format, with Pro Men and Women in the first two waves.

EVENT RACE COURSES:

SWIM:

The swim is a 1.2 mile rectangular loop in the brackish Choptank River. It is well-marked by bright orange buoys at the turns and yellow tetrahedron buoys. The route could change as race day approaches due to weather and/or tidal conditions.

There will be motorized craft, kayak support and a dive team to assist.

Water temp in June has ranged from 72-76'F. Water temp in 2010 was a record, 79.6 F.

As of Sept 1, 2010, the new WTC wetsuit Temp rule is in effect: 76.1°F. The USAT rule is 78.0°F

Multi Wave start. Pro Men and Women in the first two waves.

 BIKE:

The bike is 56 miles, mostly through the scenic, dry, and hot windy terrain of The Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Winds have been clocked at 30+ mph!  There are 4 aid stations to support your efforts.

RUN:

The run is flat out and back on a 13.1 mile loop on mostly rural, hot unshaded roads. There are 13 aid stations to support your efforts on the run, with some of THE very best and supportive staff ever assembled. We used 20,000 of ice in 2010!! Look out for new Snow Cone machines in 2011!!

The junction of Jenkins Creek and Cambridge West By-Pass will have barricades blocking the road until race week. If you ride the course for practice prior to the race, please dismount and go around. These barricades will be removed prior to the race.

ABOUT THE SUBARU EAGLEMAN AQUA-VELO DIVISION:

All Aqua-Velo entrants will start in a separate wave and will finish the event at their bike rack after crossing the timing mat. There is no run. Special bike racking is allocated.

If you are registered as an individual and would like to switch to Aqua Velo, it may be done up to one month prior to the race with a $25 admin fee. There are no refunds given for fee differences when switching from individual to Aqua Velo.

SUBARU EagleMan  Ironman 70.3 KOKUA COMMUNITY SLOTS:

The Fund is administered by The Columbia Triathlon Association, Inc, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We support a number of local and regional causes including The ARC of Howard County, The Blazeman Foundation, The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, and several local and worthy charities.

Payment must be in the form of a check. Checks must be made payable to, "CTA/Community". Your contribution is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Check with your tax specialist for further details.

There are no refunds given to community/charity slots since this money is allocated directly toward charity.


REFUND POLICY:

Refer to the Home page, “Refunds” tab in order to request a refund. Refunds requested through any other means will not be responded to.

A refund of your race entry fee, less an $85 administrative charge, will be processed upon receipt of an emailed request. The request for refund must be made on or before April 15, 2011. After April 15, 2011, no refunds will be processed for any reason. Please understand this policy prior to signing up for the race. Please do not ask for a refund after the deadline!

Entries are non transferable between events, or between athletes. Entries cannot be rolled over to another year.

Selling of your race entry slot is strictly prohibited. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race and you, as well as, the entrant who purchased your slot will be disqualified from other TriColumbia events for a minimum of 2 years.

There are no refunds given to community/charity slots as those funds are allocated directly toward charity.

KEY RELAY INFORMATION

If you are registered as relay, substitutions to your relay team may be made up to one month prior to the race with a $25 admin fee for each requested change. The captain (the person who paid for the entry) must always remain a part of the team. You may NOT switch from a relay team to the individual category. If you are registered as an individual and would like to switch to a relay, it may be done up to one month prior to the race with a $25 admin fee plus the entry cost difference.

RACE ENTRY CONFIRMATION/UPDATES:

Your cancelled check, or your confirmation email if you pay by credit card, will serve as confirmation of race entry and acceptance, and the race entry list serves as additional confirmation of your registration. Further SUBARU EagleMan Ironman 70.3 information will be made available on the Tricolumbia website, and will be sent to you via email. In order to receive the most current event information with a minimum of delay, please update your EagleMan registration if your email address changes.

We will not and DO not sell your email address for any reason.

FORD IRONMAN CHAMPIONSHIP SLOT ALLOCATIONS:

The SUBARU EagleMan Ironman 70.3 is an official qualifier for the 2011 Ford Ironman World Championship, taking place in Kailua Kona, Hawaii on October 10, 2011. The current race entry fee is set at $550 (US).

EagleMan will be awarding twenty-eight (28) age-group qualifying slots for the Kona. There is one slot guaranteed to each age group with at least a single entrant who starts the race. Any remaining slots are allocated based upon a specially formatted WTC formula. One month after the refund deadline has passed a tentative slot allocation table will be posted on our website.

Foster Grant
IRONMAN 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SLOT ALLOCATIONS:

The SUBARU EagleMan Ironman 70.3 is an official qualifier for the Foster Grant  Ironman 70.3 World Championship,  November 12, 2011.  Our event will be awarding forty-six (46) age-group qualifying slots and four (4) professional qualifying slots for this event. There is one slot guaranteed to each age group that has at least one starter race day. Any remaining slots are allocated based upon a formula. One month after the refund deadline has passed, a tentative slot allocation table will be posted. The race entry fee is currently set at $325.00 (US).

If you register in the Clydesdale or Athena Categories, you are NOT eligible to compete for Ironman Hawaii or 70.3 Championship slots. You must race in your age group if you would like to be eligible for these slots

All pre-registered entrants are required to present for packet pick up in person due to insurance purposes. At this time, you will be issued a unique wrist band which will be affixed and is to be worn through to the end of the race Sunday. All participants must show a photo ID and their up-to-date USAT card (unless one day event insurance was already purchased with entry). If you forget your USAT card, you have the following options: 1) show your current USAT membership through the use of your mobile phone, 2) retrieve your card from your hotel room, 3) access a computer to print a copy of your card from the USAT website or 4) pay $10 for one day event insurance and complete an application/waiver. This is your responsibility. Race staff cannot look up your USAT information on personal or CTA laptops. You MUST bring it with you or pay the one day event insurance fee. Per USAT rules, each participant MUST pickup their own packet. No Exceptions.

You will be allowed into the transition area on race morning to set up the rest of your transition, but will NOT be allowed to remove your bike from the transition area. The race will NOT be performing bike inspections. We recommend that you do this on your own prior to the race.

The first 8 finishers, both male and female in this class, will be eligible to receive prize money,

 Professionals do Not qualify for any prize by virtue of placing in their "Age Group". All prize money will be mailed to the winners after the race results have been certified as "Official" by race officials, appropriate IRS forms have been completed, and anti-doping results are approved by WTC. All non-US residents who complete a W8BEN will have 30% of the prize award withheld.

RESULTS AND AWARDS Program:

Official race results will also be posted on our web site (www.tricolumbia.org) within 12 hours after the race. If you qualify for an award and are unable to attend the Awards Presentation, either have someone pick it up for you or send us a check in the amount of $10.00 made payable to The Columbia Triathlon Association, Inc., 9130-G Red Branch Road, Columbia, MD 21045 (P&H) and we will mail your award to you. No awards will be mailed until a check is received. Allow up to 4 weeks to receive the award.


Subaru EagleMan Ironman 70.3 CAMPSITE PROGRAM:

Campsites will be available only at the Cambridge South Dorchester High School grounds about 3 miles from the race site at Great Marsh Park. The school is at the corner of Route 16 (Church Creek Rd., the same road the bike course traverses) and Maple Dam Rd. Showers in the locker rooms are provided.

There are ample spaces available. The cost is $30 per tent, RV, or camper. Complete the
Camping Application and mail with payment to the address on the form. You will be provided a camping permit to place in your windshield.

Subaru EagleMan Ironman 70.3 BUS SHUTTLE SERVICE

In order to alleviate some of the stress on race morning, we have arranged for a Park & Ride bus shuttle service. Parking will be in three large Cambridge school lots for your convenience on race morning. The route to the Parking Area will be signed and can be found on the Parking Map.

Buses will begin at 4:30am and run until 6:30am transporting athletes and supporters to the race drop-off area. The Transition Area closes promptly at 6:45, so plan accordingly.

Shuttle buses will return supporters and athletes throughout the day, ending at 4:30pm. Spectators and supporters can shuttle back to their car and return to pick up their athlete; otherwise, athletes are encouraged to ride bikes back to the parking lot (route will be signed for easy return - 1.5 miles). Shuttle buses will pick up outside the park, on Hambrooks Boulevard.

LODGING: The Official host Hotel is the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf, Resort and Spa, on the northern banks of the Choptank River. This is a spectacular facility that will appeal to the whole family. A special room rate will apply for the triathlon, but rooms are limited. When triathletes call the Hyatt to book a room(s), please state that you wish to book a room with the "Eagleman Ironman 70.3 triathlon" This will ensure your correct reservation.
