0.5 mile swim – 16 mile bike – 2.5 mile run at scenic Rocky Gap State Park benefits Cumberland YMCA
Columbia, Md. – TriColumbia, the Mid-Atlantic’s premier endurance event production company, hosted the 2nd annual Iron Girl Rocky Gap Triathlon yesterday, September 8, 2013, at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, Md. More than 900 female endurance athletes, ages 14 – 71 from 28 states and 2 countries, participated in the race, which consisted of a 0.5 mile swim, 16 mile bike and 2.5 mile run to benefit the Cumberland YMCA.
Although 33-year-old Loren Winebrenner of Hyndman, Pa. lead the pack through the swim and bike legs of the race, 32-year-old professional triathlete Kristin Andrews of Chevy Chase, Md. overcame Winebrenner in the final 2.5 mile run to win by five minutes. Andrews finished with a final time of 1:16:18, taking home a $1,700 prize purse.
Rounding out the top five were: 2) Loren Winebrenner (33, Hyndman, Pa.) time: 1:21:44, prize $1,300.00; 3) Janelle McIntyre (48, Ellicot City, Md.) time: 1:22:44, prize: $800; 4) Melody Kentrus (30, Frostburg, Md.), time: 1:24:24, prize: $600; 5) Allison Gittelman (41, South Riding, Va.) time: 1:25:04, prize: $399.
The Iron Girl Rocky Gap Triathlon benefitted the Cumberland YMCA, serving human needs in Allegany County and the Tri-State region through programs and services that promote lifelong personal growth and the balanced development of spirit, mind and body.
