Why do you TRI?

Amy Haramatuk Gardner of Germantown, MD "TRIs" for her daughter, who will be 4 years cancer free this summer!

55-year-old Ross Kennard of Ellicot City, MD "TRIs" for the satisfaction of finishing a triathlon in his five finger running shoes.

Adam Sachs of Columbia, MD "TRIs" to overcome the devastating sports injury that left him with a broken tibia and fibula. The Columbia Triathlon will be his first triathlon, exactly 1 year and 22 days after his surgery.

Peter Tango of Deale, MD "TRIs" in order to remain fit and healthy, even as he enters his 50's!

Denise Huson "TRIs" to support her sister who was diagnosed with Lymphoma. She participates with Team In Training, representing the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the race beneficiary of the Columbia Triathlon!

Max Prola, a true TriColumbia legend, finishes his 30th Columbia Triathlon! Prola has competed in and finished EVERY Columbia Triathlon since its inception in 1984. At 68 years young, Max looked like a real veteran out on the course.

Our founder and retired CEO Robert "Vigo" Vigorito celebrates after completing his first Columbia Triathlon after 30 years of directing the race! The Columbia Triathlon, one of the longest running in the country, would not have been possible without Vigo's passion for the multi-sport lifestyle. Congratulations Vigo! Andy Miyares, a 29-year-old Columbia Triathlon participant from Miami, is an inspiration to us all today. Andy holds an incredible 16 World Records for Down Syndrome Aquatics Athletes! In the 2007 Special Olympics World Games in China, Andy won 4 medals, including one gold, two silver and one bronze.

Today, he is racing on Team Syd with cyclist Syd Lea and runner Mark Worley. Good luck Andy!

19-year-old Shane Lauer of Phoenix, MD is no stranger to the Columbia Triathlon. Today, Shane is participating in his 4th Columbia Triathlon with the assistance of Team Athletes Serving Athletes.

Shane is confined to a wheelchair due to Duchene's muscular dystrophy, but that does not stop him from participating in dozens of multi-sport events!
