The US Army here today, passing out medals to all Iron Girl finishers. Thank you for all you do! Army strong!

Today, Iron Girl was honored to award Diana Toronto, a 45-year-old breast cancer survivor from Columbia, Md., with the "Power To The She" Award. In May, Diana will celebrate the 5 year anniversary of her surgery to remove a malignant tumor. During her treatments, Diana used many of the services provided at the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center at Howard County General Hospital, and is a member of Team Conquer! Just one year after Diana was diagnosed with breast cancer, she completed her first triathlon! This year, she is attempting the Iron Girl Triple Crown!

We are pleased to have Amanda Hichkad, 40, from Bel Air, MD. Amanda is a thyroid cancer survivor, who is training to become a Titanium girl this year! Amanda asked family and friends to sponsor the miles she is running to train for back-to-back half marathons, donating all funds to the Chesapeake Cancer Alliance (CCA). CCA is non-profit, volunteer organization that raises funds for Upper Chesapeake Health's Cancer LifeNet program, which provides free services to cancer patients in Harford County.

Rebecca Ward, 36,  from Kesington, MD! Rebecca is racing today and has a collagen synthesis disorder called Ehlers Danlos. It is a genetic condition with multiple subtypes of physical expression.The severity can vary mild to life-threatening and there is no cure. She runs with Wear Blue Run to Remember, a group that runs for fallen soldiers, fighting soldiers and their families. Rebecca is registered for the Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Half Marathon, the Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon and the Athleta Iron Girl Rocky Gap Triathlon, because she wants to go for the Triple Crown this year!
