2010 EagleMan Ironman 70.3

Jun 14, 2010 7:35 am

Immediately after the last finisher crossed the finish line a quick storm blew through Great Marsh Park which abruptly ended our posts. Thanks for tuning in to CTA TRI-Lights during the event for your up to the minute coverage of EagleMan Ironman 70.3. The Columbia Triathlon Association Team would like to congratulate the winners and all the athletes, both professional and amateur, who battled through the blazing heat and one of the most competitive and grueling 70.3 events ever. Congratulations to those who qualified for slots to the Ford Ironman World Championship Kona, HI, October 9, 2010 and to the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, FL, November 13, 2010. Thanks to our amazing volunteers in the Cambridge community who numbered nearly 800 and helped EagleMan Ironman 70.3  lived up to Triathlete Magazine's March 2009 award in the Best Race Support catagory. Thanks as well to the entire Cambridge community who open their doors to 2000 athletes each year, and to our sponsors -  Spinervals, Subaru, Geico, Gatorade, Multisport TriSpeed, PowerBar, Xterra, TYR and Philadelphia Insurance Company. Teresa Byrnes, 44 just finished the EagleMan.  Her strength, both mental and physical is incredible.  A year ago tomorrow, just before Eagleman 2009, Teresa was diagnosed with Stage III Breast cancer.  She made a decision to still race, as she did not know when or if she would get the chance again. She had a mastectomy on July 15th followed by chemotherapy and then radiation. Fortunately, she was able to "train" through the whole process, which really helped both mentally and physically. Now just 6 short months after her last Chemo, she finished Eagleman again. She has a whole new perspective on racing now, and plans to enjoy every moment, no matter how painful.  She is just happy that she is still here and able to race again!

The swim wave is about to begin.  No wetsuits today for all athletes as the water temperature is just below 80 degrees. This is an historic event as it's the first time since 1996 when the race became an Ironman qualifier that wetsuits are not allowed.
