INAUGURAL CHOPTANK BRIDGE SWIM

TriColumbia is excited to announce the inaugural Choptank Bridge Swim on May 10, 2014. This open water endurance swim set in picturesque and athlete-friendly Cambridge, Maryland, offers two distances taking swimmers across the Choptank River, between the Choptank River and Choptank Fishing Pier Bridges, and finishing on the beach at the Dorchester County Visitor’s Center adjacent to Sailwinds Park.

Home to TriColumbia’s IRONMAN EagleMan 70.3 June 8 and ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival September 20, the Choptank Bridge Swim offers open water swimmers and triathletes alike a unique and challenging course.

THE COURSE

For the 1.6 mile swim, participants will start at the Choptank River Fishing Pier State Park on the Talbot County side of the Choptank River and swim between the Choptank River Bridge and the Choptank River Fishing Pier, finishing on the beach at the Dorchester County Visitor’s Center. Swimmers participating in the longer 3.6 mile swim will begin on the beach at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge (south side of the river), swim 2 miles north across the river to the Choptank River Fishing Pier State Park, and then follow the 1.6 mile course between the Choptank River Bridge and the Choptank River Fishing Pier, finishing on the beach at the Dorchester County Visitor’s Center.

 

CHECK IN, PACKET PICK UP, RACE START

Check in and packet pick up will be on race morning at the Dorchester County Visitor’s Center adjacent to Sailwinds Park.

8 a.m. –9 a.m. 3.6 mile swim check in and packet pick up
9 a.m. –10 a.m. 1.6 mile swim check in and packet pick up
10 a.m. 3.6 mile swim start from Hyatt Regency Chesapeake
11 a.m. 1.6 mile swim start from Choptank River Fishing Pier State Park

Buses will be available to take swimmers to the start.

 

SANCTIONING

The inaugural Choptank Bridge Swim is sanctioned by the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA). WOWSA members enjoy a long list of benefits including a subscription to the monthly digital Open Water Swimming Magazine, sponsor discounts, and excess medical coverage. Learn more about WOWSA membership. WOWSA membership is not required to participate in the Choptank Bridge Swim.
